Doubles 2010
Doubles, photographs of crumpled and folded photographic paper, uses the photographic process and materials as both subject and medium. This photographically self-referential work was made by printing monochrome photograms of magenta, cyan and yellow colors (CMYK) with an optical enlarger. I then carefully smooshed and composed the photograms in my photography studio, photographed them, and printed the results. Echoing this process, I masked opposite halves of “identical” prints and exposed them with another layer of magenta, cyan or yellow. The photographs are hung as “doubles” or diptychs to mirror each other and ultimately produce an “en abyme” effect of infinite reduplication.
